Though National Geographic is not a new entity, their world music record label is. The second installment in our record label Q & A's goes to Jeff Clyburn, director of National Geographic Music.
1. How do you describe your label in five words or less?
Music that transcends boundaries.
2. What’s different today about running a label than running one ten years ago?
There is a lot less money to work with at every level.
3. What do you offer that artists can’t do themselves?
Access to a worldwide media company, financing, marketing, PR, and a retail strategy that comes from years of releasing records independently.
4. What is your release schedule for the rest of this year?
Roughly 1 album every 6 weeks including "Dunya" by Bibi Tanga & The Selenites on June 1 and "El-Existential" by Grupo Fantasma June 15.
