Moroccan Musician Hassan Hakmoun has opened Sintir, a New York City restaurant and venue serving Moroccan food and featuring live musical performances. The chef at the new East Village restaurant is Hakmoun's sister. Hassan performs with friends there every Saturday. The restaurant takes its name from Hakmoun's instrument, a bassy three-stringed lute covered with a camel skin which is used in Gnawa traditions to induce trancey rhythms.
